Event Description

The International Day of Braille is a global celebration of the Braille language. It is observed on January 4th of each year, which coincides with the birthday of Louis Braille in 1809, the inventor of the Braille writing system that was named after him. The aim of celebrating the International Day of Braille is to encourage the visually impaired or those who suffer from severe visual impairments to read and write, and to strengthen their active presence in their communities. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to identify the challenges they may face and work on finding effective solutions through the collaboration of international organizations, led by the World Health Organization. It also offers a chance to recognize the necessity of having more assistive tools for visually impaired individuals and to emphasize, through these assistive means, their participation in their societies and their positive interaction with others.
